What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The center link spans between the pitman arm and idler arm and carries both inner tie rods, making it the backbone of a parallelogram steering system. When its joints wear, play shows up at every wheel position. We replace the link, reconnect the tie rods, and align the front end.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Loose steering that multiple tie rods didn't fix
- Play visible in the center of the linkage
- Wander and imprecise tracking
- Clunks from mid-linkage over bumps
- Failed inspection for center link play
If you delay
Play in the center link multiplies through the whole linkage, accelerating wear on every connected joint.
