What this repair actually is.
The outer tie rod end is the small ball joint that transfers steering motion to each front wheel. When it wears, the steering gets loose, tires wear unevenly, and in the worst case the joint can separate. We replace it, set the toe as close as possible, and finish with a proper alignment.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Loose or sloppy steering
- Clunking or knocking over bumps
- Front tires wearing on the inside or outside edge
- Steering wheel shakes at speed
- Failed NY state inspection for tie rod play
If you delay
A badly worn tie rod end can separate while driving, causing sudden loss of steering control at that wheel.
