What this repair actually is.
Each end of the steering rack is sealed by an accordion-style rubber boot. Once it tears, salt, water, and grit get straight into the inner tie rod and rack seals. Replacing a torn boot promptly is a small job that prevents a much more expensive inner tie rod or rack replacement.

- Failed inspection for a torn boot

- New clunk after driving through deep water or snow
