What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The drag link connects the pitman arm to the steering knuckle or tie rod on solid-axle trucks and vans. Its ball ends wear from load and road salt, creating steering play and the wobble solid-axle trucks are known for. We replace the link, center the steering wheel, and align the front end.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Steering play on a solid-front-axle truck or van
- Death wobble or shimmy after bumps
- Clunking from the front linkage
- Steering wheel off-center
- Failed inspection for drag link play
If you delay
A separated drag link disconnects the steering box from the wheels entirely — worn ends are a serious safety item.
