What this repair actually is.
Coil springs carry the vehicle's weight, and in the Northeast they commonly snap from rust and pothole hits. A broken spring drops that corner of the car and can slice a tire. We safely compress and remove the old spring, install a new one, and reset ride height — followed by an alignment, since ride height changes the steering geometry.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- One corner of the vehicle sits visibly lower
- Loud bang or clunk followed by a changed ride
- Harsh, crashing ride over bumps
- Broken coil visible behind the wheel
- Tire rubbing or uneven tire wear on one corner
If you delay
A broken spring can shift and cut into the tire or drop further, and the strut and mount on that corner take a beating every mile.
