What this repair actually is.
The strut mount is the cushioned bearing between the top of the strut and the vehicle body — the front ones also let the strut rotate when you steer. When the rubber collapses or the bearing dries out, you get knocking over bumps and a creak or pop when turning the wheel at low speed. We remove the strut assembly, compress the spring, swap the mount and bearing, and reinstall.
Symptoms

- Knocking from the top of the strut tower over bumps
- Creaking or popping when turning the wheel while parked
- Steering feels notchy or stiff at low speed
- Clunk when changing direction
- Visible gap or collapse in the rubber under the hood
If you delay
A collapsed mount hammers the strut and body metal on every bump and can make the steering bind.
