What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The valve body is the maze of passages, valves, and solenoids that routes pressurized fluid to engage each gear — effectively the transmission's brain stem. Worn valve bores and sticking valves cause shudder, harsh shifts, and slipping that fluid changes can't fix. We replace it with a new or remanufactured unit, refill with fresh fluid, and perform the required computer adaptation.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Harsh or banging shifts that fluid service didn't fix
- Shudder during light acceleration
- Erratic shifting — right one minute, wrong the next
- Gear-ratio or pressure-control codes stored
If you delay
Erratic hydraulic pressure wears the clutches unevenly — wait long enough and the fix becomes a rebuild instead of a valve body.
