What this repair actually is.
The steering column contains bearings, the tilt/telescope mechanism, the ignition lock, and wiring for your horn, airbag, and controls. We disassemble the column, replace the specific worn or broken internal parts, and reassemble — often far cheaper than replacing the whole column when only one piece has failed.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Grinding or rubbing noise when turning the wheel
- Tilt or telescope adjustment is broken or floppy
- Key is hard to turn or the wheel won't unlock
- Column was damaged in an attempted theft
- Wheel has up-down or in-out play
If you delay
Worn column parts keep loosening — a wobbly column or sticking lock can eventually leave the car undriveable.
