What's involved

What this repair actually is.

We remove the failed starter motor and install a new or premium remanufactured unit, then verify cranking speed and current draw are back in spec. On some vehicles the starter is buried under the intake manifold or between the engine and firewall, which is why the labor range is wide.

Symptoms

How you can tell.

  • Single loud click when you turn the key, but no crank
  • Grinding or whirring noise when starting
  • Starter keeps spinning after the engine fires
  • Intermittent no-start that jump starts don't fix
  • Smoke or hot electrical smell after repeated start attempts
If you delay

A dying starter fails without warning — usually somewhere inconvenient — and a dragging starter can drain the battery and damage the flywheel teeth.

Maintenance tip

No interval; replace on failure.
