What this repair actually is.
The rear main seal wraps the crankshaft where it exits the back of the engine. When it leaks, oil drips from the bellhousing where engine meets transmission. The seal itself is cheap, but reaching it requires removing the transmission, which is why we always confirm the leak source before committing to the job.

- Oil dripping from where the engine meets the transmission
- Oil spots centered under the middle of the car
- Oil level dropping steadily
- Burning oil smell
- Clutch slipping from oil contamination (manual transmissions)
If you delay
The leak steadily worsens, can soak a clutch, and running low on oil risks the entire engine.
