What this repair actually is.
The valve cover gasket seals the top of the engine where oil constantly splashes. Over time it hardens and lets oil seep down the engine, onto hot exhaust parts, and sometimes into the spark plug wells. We remove the cover, clean the surfaces, and install a fresh gasket and seals.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Oil visible on the sides of the engine
- Burning oil smell after driving
- Light smoke from the engine bay
- Oil in the spark plug wells or misfires
- Low oil level with no puddle under the car
If you delay
Leaking oil coats belts and wiring, fouls spark plugs, and can smoke or even ignite on the hot exhaust manifold.
