What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The oil pan holds your engine's oil, and its gasket eventually hardens and leaks. We drop the pan, clean both surfaces, install a new gasket or sealant per factory spec, and refill with fresh oil. On some vehicles the subframe or crossmember must be moved to get the pan out, which drives the labor range.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Oil spots where you park
- Oil level dropping between changes
- Oil coating the underside of the engine
- Burning oil smell
- Low oil warning light
If you delay
Left alone, the leak gets faster — running low on oil even once can cause permanent engine damage.
