What this repair actually is.
When a differential has severe gear or bearing damage, swapping in a complete replacement unit is often faster and cheaper than rebuilding the original. We source a unit with the correct gear ratio for your vehicle, remove the old differential, install and torque the replacement, connect the axles and driveshaft, and fill it with fresh gear oil.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Loud whining, howling, or grinding from the rear
- Metal debris found in the differential fluid
- Clunking or banging from the rear axle under power
- Rear wheels binding or locking momentarily
- Differential housing cracked or leaking badly
