What this repair actually is.
The reservoir stores the fluid and, on many vehicles, contains a fine screen that filters debris before it reaches the pump. Over time the plastic cracks and the screen clogs, starving the pump and causing whine — especially on cold mornings. We replace the reservoir with fresh fluid and purge the air.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Whining on cold starts that fades as it warms
- Cracked or weeping plastic reservoir
- Foamy or milky-looking fluid
- Fluid seeping around the reservoir seams
- Repeat pump failures
If you delay
A clogged reservoir screen starves the pump of fluid, which will eventually destroy the pump itself.
