What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The EVAP system captures fuel vapors from the tank so they never reach the air, and even a pinhole leak or a loose gas cap will set a code and block a NY inspection. We scan the codes, test the purge and vent valves, and smoke-test the lines to find exactly where vapor is escaping — it is often just a cracked hose or a worn gas cap seal.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Check engine light with an EVAP or small leak code
- Fuel smell around the car
- Light comes back after replacing the gas cap
- Failed inspection due to an EVAP code
- Code returns every time you fill the tank
If you delay
You cannot pass NY inspection with an active EVAP code, and escaping fuel vapor wastes gas.
