What's involved

What this repair actually is.

When an engine is seized, hydrolocked, or too damaged to repair economically, we source a replacement — usually a low-mileage used engine or a remanufactured unit with warranty — and swap it in, transferring accessories and installing fresh fluids, gaskets, and hardware. Every swap is quoted individually because engine cost and swap labor vary enormously by vehicle.

Symptoms

How you can tell.

  • Engine seized or won't turn over at all
  • Loud knocking from deep in the engine
  • Metal shavings found in the oil
  • Severe overheating or hydrolock event
  • Repair estimate exceeds the engine's worth
If you delay

A vehicle with a failed engine deteriorates sitting still — and towing, storage, and donor engine prices only trend upward.

Educational estimate. Real pricing depends on your vehicle, the inspection, parts availability, taxes, and shop rates. Use this as a guide while you shop quotes.
