What's involved
What this repair actually is.
VVT solenoids use oil pressure to adjust valve timing for power and fuel economy. When one clogs or sticks — often from overdue oil changes — the engine rattles, idles rough, and sets timing codes. We replace the solenoid, check oil condition, and clear the codes.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Rattle from the engine, especially at startup
- Check engine light with timing or VVT codes
- Rough idle
- Worse fuel economy
- Hesitation under acceleration
If you delay
Running with faulty VVT control accelerates timing chain and camshaft wear, which are far more expensive repairs.
