What's involved
What this repair actually is.
This is the more thorough version of a fluid change. We remove the transmission pan, replace the internal filter that catches debris, install a new pan gasket, clean the pan and magnet, and refill with the correct fluid. Inspecting what's in the pan also gives an early warning of internal wear.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- It's been 60,000+ miles since the last full service
- Slightly delayed or firm shifts
- Dark or burnt-smelling fluid
- Minor seepage around the transmission pan gasket
If you delay
A clogged filter starves the transmission of fluid pressure, which causes slipping and long-term internal damage.
