What this repair actually is.
Automatic transmissions pump their fluid through cooler lines to a cooler (usually in the radiator) to manage heat. In the Northeast these steel lines rust and their fittings seize, causing leaks. We replace the failed line or lines, then top off and verify the fluid level — because a transmission run low on fluid destroys itself fast.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Red or brown fluid dripping near the front of the car
- Transmission slipping when the fluid gets low
- Visible rusty, wet lines running toward the radiator
- Burning smell from fluid hitting hot components
If you delay
A cooler line can go from a slow seep to a rapid leak without warning — losing fluid on the highway can ruin the transmission in minutes.
