What's involved
What this repair actually is.
After an alignment, battery disconnect, or steering repair, many vehicles need the steering angle sensor recalibrated so the computer knows exactly where straight ahead is. We connect a scan tool, run the manufacturer's calibration routine, and verify the stability control and steering systems are reading correctly.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Traction or stability light on after an alignment
- Steering warning after a battery replacement
- Stability control intervenes on straight roads
- Driver-assist features acting confused
- Wheel is straight but the car reports it isn't
