What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The onboard charger converts wall power into the DC power your battery stores, and when it fails the car charges slowly, intermittently, or not at all. We test the charger, its wiring and its communication with the charging station to confirm whether the charger, the port or the station is at fault.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Car won't charge on home or public chargers
- Charging starts then stops on its own
- Charging is much slower than it used to be
- Charge error message on the dash or app
- Clicking from the charge port but no charge
If you delay
A failing onboard charger usually gets worse until the car can only DC fast-charge — or not charge at all.
