What's involved
What this repair actually is.
Some trucks and luxury vehicles steer the rear wheels as well as the front for tighter turns and highway stability. When the system faults it usually locks the rear wheels centered and sets a warning. We scan the rear-steer module, test the rear actuator and sensors, and inspect the rear linkage to identify the failure.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Four-wheel steering or rear-steer warning light
- Turning circle suddenly feels much wider
- Rear of the car feels like it crabs or steers oddly
- Clunk or whine from the rear when turning
- Rear tires wearing unevenly
