What this repair actually is.
When a DPF is loaded with soot but not physically damaged, it can be restored instead of replaced. Depending on load level we perform a scan-tool forced regeneration, or remove the filter for off-vehicle deep cleaning that flushes out packed soot and ash, then reinstall with new gaskets and reset the soot-load counters.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- DPF warning light on
- Reduced power or limp mode
- Frequent or failed regeneration cycles
- Poor fuel economy
- Excess smoke on acceleration
If you delay
Soot load past the critical threshold can crack the filter substrate, at which point cleaning no longer works and replacement is the only option.
