What this repair actually is.
The blower resistor (or control module) steps the fan between low, medium, and high. When it fails, you typically lose every speed except the highest. We replace the failed resistor pack, check its connector for heat damage, and confirm every fan speed works again.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Fan only works on the highest speed
- Some fan speeds dead, others fine
- Fan speed changes on its own
- Fan keeps running after the car is off
- Melted-plastic smell near the glove box
If you delay
A failing resistor often takes its wiring connector with it as it overheats, adding parts and labor to what is otherwise a quick, inexpensive fix.
