What's involved
What this repair actually is.
Blend door actuators are little electric motors inside the dash that move the doors mixing hot and cold air and directing it to your vents. When one fails, a side of the car gets stuck hot or cold, or air comes out of the wrong vents, often with a clicking sound. We access the failed actuator behind the dash, replace it, and recalibrate the climate system.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Driver and passenger sides blow different temperatures
- Temperature stuck on hot or cold no matter the setting
- Repeated clicking or knocking behind the dash
- Air comes out of the wrong vents
- Defrost setting doesn't send air to the windshield
If you delay
A stuck blend door means no working heat or defrost when you need it, and a clicking actuator can chew up its plastic gears until the door jams completely.
