What's involved

What this repair actually is.

We replace the high-intensity discharge (xenon) bulb, which runs on thousands of volts from a ballast and fails differently than a regular bulb — it usually flickers, shifts color toward pink or purple, or cuts out after warming up. If a fresh bulb doesn't fix it, the ballast or igniter is the culprit, and we'll test that before selling you more parts.

Symptoms

How you can tell.

  • Headlight flickers or shuts off after a few minutes
  • Light color turned pink, purple, or dim blue
  • One HID headlight won't strike (turn on) at all
  • Headlight works only sometimes on cold starts
If you delay

A dying HID bulb strains the ballast that drives it — waiting can turn a bulb replacement into a bulb-plus-ballast repair.
