What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The camera behind your windshield has to know exactly where the road is for lane keeping and emergency braking to work. We set the vehicle up level with manufacturer targets, run the factory calibration routine (in the shop, on the road, or both, depending on your model), and verify the camera-based systems respond correctly.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- 'Camera calibration required' or lane-assist warning on
- Lane keeping nudges the wheel at the wrong times
- Collision warnings triggering with nothing ahead
- Camera features disabled after a repair, alignment, or suspension work
- Diagnostic found the camera out of aim
If you delay
An uncalibrated camera can brake or steer based on a wrong picture of the road, so the safety features you rely on may act late or incorrectly.
