We check every reservoir under the hood — coolant, windshield washer, power steering, brake fluid, and transmission where accessible — and top each one off with the fluid your manufacturer specifies. Using the wrong spec fluid can damage seals, so this is worth more than a gas-station guess. We also note any level that was suspiciously low.
