What this repair actually is.
The exhaust manifold bolts directly to the engine and collects hot exhaust from the cylinders, and years of heat cycling can crack it or snap its mounting studs. We remove the old manifold — extracting any broken studs — and install a new manifold with fresh gaskets and hardware, priced per bank on V-type engines.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Ticking or puffing at cold start that fades when warm
- Exhaust smell under the hood or through the vents
- Visible crack or soot streaks on the manifold
- Louder engine bay noise under load
If you delay
Hot escaping exhaust can burn wiring and hoses near the manifold and let fumes into the cabin, and broken studs get harder to extract the longer they rust.
