What's involved
What this repair actually is.
Exhaust clamps hold pipe sections together at their joints, and when they rust out the joint loosens, leaks, and rattles. We remove the old clamp, clean up the joint, reseat the pipes, and install a new band or U-bolt clamp so the connection seals tight.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Rattle or buzz from under the car
- Exhaust leak sound at a pipe joint
- Visible rusted or broken clamp
- Pipe sections visibly separated
If you delay
A failed clamp lets the joint separate completely, which can drop a pipe section onto the road.
