What this repair actually is.
The compressor is the belt- or electrically-driven pump that circulates refrigerant through the A/C system. When it fails — noisy clutch, seized bearing, or internal wear — cold air is gone for good until it is replaced. We recover the refrigerant, replace the compressor and receiver-drier, set the correct oil charge, pull a vacuum, and recharge the system to spec.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Loud grinding, rattling, or squealing when the A/C engages
- A/C clutch clicks but no cold air
- A/C stopped working suddenly with a bang or screech
- Burning rubber smell with the A/C on
- Recharge didn't bring the cold air back
If you delay
A failing compressor can seize and scatter metal debris through the entire A/C system, turning one part into a full-system replacement.
