What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The upper and lower radiator hoses carry coolant between the engine and the radiator. Rubber hoses harden, swell, and split with age — usually failing at the worst time. We replace the failed hose with a new one and fresh clamps, refill the coolant, and pressure-check the connections.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Coolant spraying or dripping near the radiator
- A hose that feels rock-hard, mushy, or swollen
- Visible cracks or bulges in a hose
- Sudden overheating with steam from the engine bay
- Crusty residue at hose ends
If you delay
A weak hose can burst without warning, dumping all your coolant on the road and overheating the engine within minutes.
