What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The EGR system recirculates a small amount of exhaust back into the engine to lower emissions, and when the valve sticks or the passages carbon up you get rough idle, stalling, pinging, and check engine codes. We scan the system, command the valve open and closed, and check flow to determine whether you need a cleaning, a new valve, or something else entirely.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Check engine light with an EGR code
- Rough or lumpy idle
- Stalling at stop lights
- Pinging or knocking under acceleration
- Failed emissions inspection
If you delay
A stuck EGR valve can cause stalling in traffic and pinging that slowly damages the engine.
