What this repair actually is.
Diesel engines hold roughly two to three times more oil than gas engines, use larger filters, and require diesel-rated oil that handles soot loading and protects emissions equipment. We drain, replace the filter, refill with the correct diesel-spec oil for your engine, and check for fuel dilution or coolant contamination while we're in there.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- Diesel truck or van due for service by miles or engine hours
- Oil life monitor or maintenance light is on
- Oil on the dipstick is thick and jet black well before the interval
- Towing or heavy stop-and-go use since the last change
If you delay
Soot-saturated oil turns abrasive and wears the turbo, injectors, and bearings — on a diesel, that's five-figure territory.
