What's involved
What this repair actually is.
The ABS light means your anti-lock braking system has detected a fault and has shut itself off — your regular brakes still work, but the anti-skid protection does not. A technician scans the ABS module, reads live wheel-speed data, and tests the sensors, wiring, and module to confirm the exact failure before quoting a repair.
Symptoms
How you can tell.
- ABS light on in the dash
- Traction control light on with it
- Brake pedal feels different than usual
- Grinding or pulsing from the brakes at low speed
- Light comes and goes with bumps or weather
If you delay
You lose anti-lock protection in panic stops and on wet roads, and an ABS light is an automatic NY state inspection failure.
